A Monash University study in 2024 found that about 60% of people in aged care suffer extreme levels of loneliness and depression. * Our Community Chaplain in Aged Care is actively supporting residents. Let’s call her Donna*.

Showing up each day and making a difference

Donna helps residents to stay connected with social activities, craft and games. This reduces the sense of isolation many experience.  This promotes the quality of life and positive wellbeing for all involved.

Donna is also there for the serious conversations. Many are experiencing grief and loss as they deal with their own illness or with their significant other.  Donna has allowed space for those hard conversations including funeral planning and faith. Residents appreciate it as one resident, Mary said “I haven’t spoken about my husband’s death in months. It’s hard to speak about my feelings with my family, so it’s really good to have a chaplain.”

The new aged care chaplain role in regional Victoria has been well received as they provide holistic emotional and spiritual care.

Please continue to support community chaplaincy so we can expand this to additional locations.
