The key findings from the Victorian School Chaplaincy Survey have been collated by our research partners, McCrindle. The 2022 data demonstrates that chaplains based in Victorian primary, secondary and special school settings are mobilising positive wellbeing outcomes. Such outcomes are achieved through formal and informal conversations, recreational activities and social interactions.

While the role of the chaplain is varied, McCrindle ascertained:

  • 60% of chaplains' time is spent providing social and emotional support;
  • 11 % providing role modelling and support;
  • 10 % on educational support (e.g. breakfast club).;
  • 8% of their time is spent reporting and recording on their pastoral conversations, writing reports and meeting with their school line manager.

The results indicate that thousands of students have benefited from community development initiatives and that spiritual support continues to be of value to Victorian school communities. To view the full report please click here.
