Earlier this year, chaplain Annie* ran a craft session where students explored ideas of connection and belonging through creativity.
At one of our wonderfully multicultural schools, Harmony Week came alive during the regular ‘Lunchtime Craft in the Yard’.
The Preps, Year 1s and Year 2s made happy people from playdough and decorated individual puzzle pieces. Later, the Year 6 students brought those pieces together to create one giant jigsaw.
🧩 We are all individuals, but we belong together.
The Year 3/4s and Year 5/6s joined in too, colouring Harmony Week banners and creating paper chains of people—each one unique, yet connected to the next.
What might look like a simple craft activity can create something much more meaningful. These shared experiences give students opportunities to connect with one another, express themselves, celebrate difference and experience what it means to belong.
💛 Different people. Different stories. One community.
This is part of the important work school chaplains do every day. Through activities, conversations and simply being present, chaplains can help young people develop empathy, build relationships and discover the value of cooperation and social cohesion.
At Korus Connect, we believe wellbeing grows when people feel seen, valued and connected to others. Sometimes, a little creativity and a shared activity can open the door to those important moments of connection.
Help us continue this work
Your donation can help support chaplains as they create opportunities for young Victorians to experience and learn the value of connection, belonging and social cohesion.
By supporting chaplaincy, you can help ensure these positive values are not simply talked about, but seen, experienced and modelled in the everyday life of a school community.
Thank you for helping create a legacy of connection and belonging for young Victorians. 💛
