Korus Connect’s partnership with Melbourne Airport began in early 2021, but the story began in1969 when the first chaplain, Rev Peter Holloway, started at Essendon Airport before moving to Tullamarine. His quiet presence brought care and compassion to passengers, staff, and leaders—including Airport General Manager George Inglis, the equivalent of today’s CEO.
The work was never about headlines but about steady impact: a reassuring word to a nervous traveller, comfort for a grieving family, or guidance for staff carrying heavy burdens. Over time, these small acts created ripples of hope across the airport community.
What began as one man’s calling has become a legacy, with Rev Peter Holloway’s daughter Mary, continuing to serve as a Chaplain at Melbourne Airport today. This remarkable continuity highlights not just the endurance of the program, but the way care embedded in a community can multiply across generations. Through decades of change in aviation and society, the chaplaincy service reminds us that beyond the bustle of planes and terminals, people matter most. The story of Melbourne Airport’s chaplaincy is one of faithfulness, service, and generational impact—what began in 1969 continues today, touching lives in ways seen and unseen.
